The Statement
of The Congress of Democratic Uzbekistan
06-17-2005
After the bloodshed in Andijan the relationship between the
US and Uzbekistan is fundamentally
changing. Some US
organizations have left Uzbekistan
or are being forced to leave Uzbekistan
by the Tashkent
government. And now there is speculations that US air force which is located in
Khanabad will leave Uzbekistan
and Uzbek government is restricting U.S. military flights. Also, the
international community has called for using sanctions against Uzbekistan.
Because of this the Congress of
Democratic Uzbekistan has
Declared:
1.This are not easy days for the Uzbek people, the US
must stay with the 26 million Uzbeks.
The US should not live Uzbekistan in the hand of powers like Russia and China.
2.The US must
demonstrate that its goal is to place Uzbekistan on the road to
democracy. This is in the interest of the Uzbek people.
3.It is against of strategic interest of Uzbeks, to move of US
forces out of Khanabad to another location. Many NGOs have already left Uzbekistan.
To the contrary, the US
must pressure the Uzbek government through International organizations. The
Uzbek government has an obligations allow the return of US NGOs to Tashkent. And sanctions
must not against Uzbek people, but against Karimov and his regime.
4. We strongly support of US calls for independent
investigate Andijan events and the US must call for international investigations in
the EU and in the UN. If these events are not independently investigate this will
constitute a victory for Dictatorship and a defeat for Democracy.
